The ‘Heart of the Campus’ building of Sheffield Hallam University forms the stunning canvas for a specially commissioned, three-storey carving. The artwork by Christopher Tipping is conveyed through dynamic mark making and linear drawing, routed into the Rockpanel surface. It is inspired by the rich history of cutlery & silverware manufacture in the city. 

The narrative artwork forms an abstract landscape which can be read vertically or in plan, like a map, with forms and shapes redolent of topography, rivers, trees & clouds.  

The facades of the Christophorus school in Germany tell the story of Saint Christopher, after whom the school is named. 

The artwork, designed by artists duo Elke Pfaffman and Stefan Kindel, depicts how Christophorus moved through the water bearing the Christ Child. Both the globe carried by the child and the illustration of the continents symbolise how Christophorus is bearing the weight of the whole world on his shoulders. As well as the Christian symbolism, the artwork also offers another interpretation: the child’s connection with the world and the future. 

This innovative multi-use leisure centre is in Lancashire, Northern England and is part of the Barton Grange Group. The company, owned by the Topping Family, runs several garden centres, a hotel and a landscape contracting firm. The proud horticultural heritage of the Topping Family and the Barton Grange Group formed the basis of the new concept.  

Artist Christopher Tipping, who designed the artwork that was integrated into the exterior cladding, explains his vision: “The client was keen to reference their long association with plants, trees and especially flowers. The artwork is therefore a celebration of flowers inspired not so much by botanical accuracy, but rather by their abstract super-graphic nature on a large scale, exploding like fireworks in celebration across the elevations of the building.” 

Natural and cultural themes have formed the inspiration for an impressive new school within the rural surroundings of Kintore (Scotland). Rockpanel boards in warm and vibrant shades of orange, yellow and green with beautiful engravings create a lively, contemporary aesthetic.
