A dynamic and sustainable facade for Intersport store in France

Out of the ordinary

“The developer had a plot of land for two stores, including an Intersport”, according to architect Jérôme Rol. “In order to obtain a commercial license, we had to design more of an architectonic building than usual. We wanted to stand out from the crowd and create a lively facade for this store that is situated at the entrance to the commercial area. That is why we opted for this geometric facade, which consists of two materials and immediately catches the eye. The cladding is installed in an instinctive, very original and totally random pattern.”

Durable and sustainable

It was necessary to find a suitable material for this composition, which requires numerous cut-outs. Construction company Cetibam, which installed the cladding, recommended Rockpanel to the architect: "I know the products of Rockpanel well", explains Pierre Battaglia, CEO of Cetibam. “They are flexible, light, easy to handle, and above all, very easy to cut; a handsaw is all you need!” And given the number of cuts needed – no two panels are the same - it was a strong argument. Especially since Rockpanel also met another requirement of the client. "We had to use durable products”, architect Jérôme adds. Referring to durability over time - Rockpanel boards have a lifespan of 50 years or more and are virtually maintenance free - and durability in terms of environmental quality. "In that respect, Rockpanel facade cladding is really very interesting.” Indeed, the compressed rock wool panels are made from an inexhaustible natural material, basalt, and are 100% recyclable. And they come at a good price, which also speaks in their favour.
