Rockpanel brings warmth and resilience to Kings Lynn Health Hub

Versatility, resilience and choice 

The Darwin Group fulfilled the roles of architect, main contractor and installer for the build. Project Architect, Claire Fenton, “We have specified Rockpanel for several projects now due to it being non-combustible, quick to install, and having a large range of surface design options, along with its durability and low maintenance characteristics.” 

The Primary Care Estates at NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB) owned health hub is a contemporary structure with single and two storey elements built in a complimentary palette of materials. Rockpanel was used in varying size to fit with the dimensions of windows and doorways, which are finished in grey with colour-matched rain management fittings, together with buff brickwork and precision horizontal planking in black. Some elevations stand proud and the roof line features a steel post and rail balustrade. The overall effect is of a sharp but welcoming piece of architecture which belies its prefab construction. 

The organic visual power of stone 

Claystone Grey from the Rockpanel Stones Textured collection, was chosen for the project. Durable, fire-resilient and colourfast, the complete Stones portfolio offers the powerful, organic visual impact of the real thing, adding a sense of quality and logevity that adds value to occupiers and property owners alike.

Rockpanel is naturally fire resiliant and achieves A2-s1,d0 fire classification, vital for buildings such as medical and educational facilities, as well as for residential and high-rise properties.” 

The MMC Steel frame facade substrate at Kings Lynn incorporates ROCKWOOL Duo Slab® insulation which achieves European fire class A1. This BBA approved insulation adds thermal comfort while reducing the transfer or external airborne noise and is made from the same stone wool used in the manufacture of Rockpanel.

A sustainable and safe solution 

Rockpanel facade boards consist of stone wool fibres, made from the abundant raw material basalt, and up to 50% recycled material. The stone wool fibres used have many strong characteristics by nature. To name a few: they are insensitive to moisture and humidity and can withstand extremely high temperatures, which makes them fire resilient. 

All the good properties of Rockpanel facade cladding therefore come from within, making it highly durable, sustainable and long-lasting by nature. Moreover, all Rockpanel facade boards have an officially confirmed lifetime of 50 years by an independent body (ETA). 

Lightweight, impact and moisture resistant, low maintenance Rockpanel can easily be curved, perforated or engraved. Panels can be delivered pre-precision cut and engineered but additional adjustments are able to be made on-site with simple tools. They have an official lifespan of fifty years.
