Playful Rockpanel facade design for Smilehullet day-care centre in Denmark

A child-friendly facade with Rockpanel Colours 

“To create a playful facade, we installed windows of various sizes and used facade panels in different colours and shapes. The slanted shape of some of the panels adds a creative touch to the building. As do the windows. Thanks to the variation in height, some can be used by children and others by adults,” Jeppe J. Kortegård continues. 

The facade panels, chosen in three different colours, were supplied by facade manufacturer Rockpanel.  ”The different colours in the facade enhance the playfulness of the building. We opted for Rockpanel Colours facade panels in two different colours that are sober and soft and also have a playful effect. In addition, we choose a white facade panel to form a continuous band around the entire building. The band varies in size, changing from full facade height to a narrower strip that runs parallel along the edge of the roof that covers the large outdoor areas. The white band brings everything together, creating uniformity as a contrast to the more fragmented and playful facade. It was obviously important that the facade panels were durable and of high quality, whilst remaining within budget.” 

Rockpanel facade cladding withstands everyday play 

Durability was also key in this project. Hence the choice for Rockpanel facade panels as they do not only withstand the elements, but can also withstand everyday play. Palle Ramsdal, project consultant at Rockpanel: “Rockpanel Colours facade cladding allows you to be creative with colours and expressions. Smilehullet is a good example. The panels do not only add to the fascinating look of the new day-care centre, they are also resistant to knocks and kicks. This is of course important, as we are dealing with a building that has to be able to withstand everyday play and ball games. Thanks to the Rockpanel facade cladding, the building needs less maintenance. At the same time, the facade cladding has sustainable benefits as it is made from stone wool, which is durable by nature. In addition, the Rockpanel facade panels have a long service life of at least 50 years.”
