New sustainable multi-generational centre in Wittlich, Germany

Sustainable facade cladding 
Architect Christian Gerhardy from the Wittlich municipality's building and property management department was responsible for a sustainable design and chose Rockpanel façade panels. "The facade cladding is UV-resistant and does not require regular re-treatment," Gerhardy explains. "If the building is demolished, the panels can be recycled and made into new stone wool. The panels are made of non-combustible stone wool. In terms of fire safety, this also makes it very suitable as a construction material for facades of public buildings”.

Attractive design and easy to maintain 
To further reduce maintenance costs, Gerhardy chose Rockpanel with a ProtectPlus coating. This makes it even easier to remove dirt and even graffiti from the panels with the help of a special cleaner.
"The iridescent surface of Rockpanel Stones is less susceptible to dirt compared to a homogeneous surface,” Gerhardy says, explaining why he chose this design. The different colour shades gave the facade an interesting texture. 

In Wittlich, Rockpanel Stones Mineral Silver was chosen for the main facade and on the first floor covering approximately 1,300 m2. Rockpanel Stones Mineral Chalk was chosen for the ground floor and the second floor built with stepped architecture (covering around 1,100 m2).  For the nursery entrance Mineral Limestone was chosen. Finally, Mineral Rust was used for the cladding of the eight bay windows. Gerhardy is pleased with the harmonious overall impression: "The colours within the Rockpanel series are very well matched. This gives you the opportunity to create a very unique design for a building and still be absolutely sure that the chosen panels match perfectly." 

Ample space for youths and seniors to meet
WILàvie's new building opened in October 2023 for youths and seniors alike. The new nursery can accommodate up to 120 children, taking up three floors. 
Each floor accommodates rooms for events and support, with the basement housing rehearsal rooms and workshops, as well as a dance and theatre space. There is also a roof terrace with a garden for young and old. All rooms are also accessible barrier-free via two lifts.
